The wizards of the Runecrafting Guild have been researching what happens when runes are crafted for years. There is one slight problem: the energy in Gielinor has had lots of time to settle making it impossible to use for this purpose. Fortunately, the Runecrafting Guild is situated in another dimension where the energy that makes up the world is in a raw state and has yet to settle.
As a student of runecraft you have been tasked with learning to leech energy from this plane.

To get to the Free RunesCape Account   you will need to use the portal within the Wizards' Tower. This portal will allow you to travel to the Runecrafting Guild, or (depending on your level) to two locations within the Runespan.
Players with a low Runecrafting level will be able to go to the bottom level of the Runespan whereas those with a higher level can choose to go to the second level. There are three levels in total; levels are traversed via ladders found near the entrance of the Runespan.

Runecrafting in The Runespan

To craft runes within the Runespan, you must siphon energy from various sources. There are several ways to obtain the energy; you need:

1. Floating essence
2. Runic energy nodes
3. Runic creatures

Note that the Runespan is owned by the Runecrafting Guild and anything you make there will be taken from you when you exit the area. These runes will be converted into points for your service to the Runecrafting Guild which you can then spend at Wizard Fenix's shop.

Runecrafting Wizards

On each floor there are 5 runecrafting wizards: 4 in blue robes and 1 in yellow robes. Once you have been in the area for 10 minutes, you will get a message stating that a yellow wizard is stranded. Which of the 5 wizards is yellow is not the same for every player.
Search for the yellow wizard and speak to them. If you spot a blue wizard and speak to them they will help you track down the yellow wizards.
Yellow wizards will ask for a specific rune to help them. You can hand any type of rune to the yellow wizard but will be provided with bonus XP If you give them the rune they are asking for. The XP for runes not specified by the wizard is based on the type of rune and your Runecrafting level. He will take up to 10 of the given rune.
Below level 77 it is best to give the wizard the highest rune you have; regardless of what he asks for. If he happens to ask for the highest rune you have it is more rewarding to give him your second best rune. (This will hopefully be fixed soon)
At level 77+ it is better to give the requested rune because the bonus xp is always larger. If you do not have the runes he asks for, give him the highest runes you have.
You will not be able to hand runes in more than once per 10 minutes.

Runescape Mahjarrat History

The Mahjarrat (pronounced MÆH-jæh-rat) are a warlike, very powerful, yet mortal race, originally from the realm of Freneskae using exceptionally strong magics and one of the most powerful races to have ever walked on Gielinor. It is unknown how many still survive to this day, as Azzanadra states "Be aware, mortal, there could be as many as a hundred of us still upon this world, with dozens more returned from other realms, but equally there could be as few as ten, each as mighty as one of your armies." After the eighteenth ritual, there are only eight (nine including Hazeel) known living Mahjarrat on Gielinor, with the current status of three being unknown (although one of them is deceased)

Freneskae

The Mahjarrat were originally the inhabitants of a world known in the common tongue as Freneskae. Virtually nothing is known of the Mahjarrat's history prior to their arrival in Gielinor, although Freneskae was apparently a plane of endless war and conflict due to their presence there. The Mahjarrat are known to have believed in some type of creator god, although its role in their history is unclear. The number of Mahjarrat living in Freneskae prior to the Mahjarrat's departure is unknown .Though, it has been confirmed that all Mahjarrat departed from Freneskae to Gielinor.
Virtually all aspects of Mahjarrat society centred on war. A handful of folk tales and stories - such as that of the Muspah - survive to this day and suggest that the race may also have possessed some type of rudimentary culture outside the immediate circle of war.

Arrival on Gielinor

Near the beginning of Gielinor's Second Age, although the number of Mahjarrat that first arrived is unknown, it must have been much higher than those that exist today considering the amount of rituals between then and now.
Icthlarin, the Menaphite god of the dead, took the Mahjarrat with him when he arrived to Gielinor. During Missing My Mummy, Queen Senliten mentions an 'Oath of Obedience' which the Mahjarrat took before their arrival upon Gielinor, which means Icthlarin may not have enslaved their race, but negotiated their service. What he offered their race in return is, most likely, the opportunity to fight for the Menaphites and defend the desert, although the Mahjarrat apparently never fully succumbed to his rule and Icthlarin never had the influence he thought. The Mahjarrat were then also known as the "Stern Judges" or the "faceless ones" (due to their shape-shifting abilities) to the desert locals. According to Queen Senliten, the Mahjarrat fought against Zaros when he first started to invade the desert from the North.

It's finally here, the RS2 beta has ended. And you can start playing it for real! We have reset everyone's RS2 saves for the last time, so from now on all that you do and everything you gain in the new game will permanently affect your real character.

Here's how the launch works. We've changed the original plan slightly, so please read this carefully:

We have decided to copy your stats to both games. So you will have all your stats and abilities in both RS1 and Free Runescape account. RS2. You can play each game whenever you wish, using the  same username/password. Skills you gain in one game will not affect the other game in any way. So if you're going to put some effort into levelling up we recommend you do so on the game you most want to stick with.

We have moved your items to RS2. So you will find all your armour/money etc. is all on your RS2 character, and you (currently) have no items on RS1. We can't just copy the items because it causes big problems with the economy if we do. However we will shortly be introducing a temporary webpage that lets you move items between the two games, so if you want to keep playing RS1 you will be able to move some or all of your items back. There will be a further news post explaining this in detail when it is ready. The only thing you need to bear in mind right now is that your items have NOT been duplicated. You only have one of each, so don't go throwing away items in RS2 that you might later want in RS1.

RS2 has been renamed to 'RuneScape'. This is to reflect that it is now the main RuneScape game. It is this main game which affects your hiscore, and this is where further updates and improvements will be focused. To play just press 'Play game' at the top of the main webpage.

RS1 has been renamed to RS-Classic and moved to it's own separate section. This will be brought back online later today if everything goes to plan. This is being kept as a bit of history so people can see what the game used to look like, and for players who prefer a simpler non-changing game.
